Why Chimney Cap Installation & Repair Matters
An uncapped chimney flue is exposed straight down into your home every time it rains or snows. Without a cap, water runs directly down the flue liner, soaks the damper, and stains the firebox, accelerating deterioration of the masonry below. A cap is a small, inexpensive component that does an outsized amount of protective work.
Caps also keep out more than water. Birds, squirrels, and raccoons regularly nest in uncapped or damaged chimneys, and embers or sparks from a wood fire can escape and land on a roof if there's no spark-arresting mesh in place. A properly sized, securely installed cap addresses both problems at once.

What Happens
We start by measuring the flue — or flues, since many chimneys serving a fireplace and a furnace or water heater have more than one — to make sure the new cap fits properly and doesn't restrict draft. We select a cap sized and styled to match, whether that's a single-flue cap or a larger cover for a multi-flue chimney, and install it with a weatherproof seal so it won't work loose in wind or ice. Many cap problems turn up during a Level 2 inspection, where we can check the crown and flashing at the same time.
